International Academic Summit in Parkinson's Treatment: NeuroLab Istanbul 2026

Istanbul, February 17–18, 2026 — Hosted by the Medipol Acıbadem District Hospital Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Center (PARMER), the NeuroLab Istanbul 2026 – Excellence in the Treatment of Movement Disorders Course brought together the world's leading neurologists and neurosurgeons, and movement disorders enthusiasts, in Istanbul.

Now in its second edition, NeuroLab Istanbul adopted the theme "How I Do," aiming to convey to participants not just what is done in the diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders, but how it is done and how clinical decisions are shaped by experience. The program moved beyond traditional academic lecture formats to offer an application-oriented and interactive educational experience.

"We designed NeuroLab Istanbul not merely as a scientific meeting, but as an educational platform that shares clinical thought processes in the field of movement disorders. Our goal was to ensure that young neurologists and neurosurgeons do not just acquire information but learn decision-making processes from the masters. Inspired by Istanbul's position connecting East and West, we aimed to bring experience, vision, and innovation together on the same ground."

Assoc. Prof. Ali Zırh — Medipol University Neurosurgery Specialist, NeuroLab Istanbul Organization Committee

Scientific Content and Applied Experience

The two-day program covered both fundamental and advanced topics in the field of movement disorders, including:

  • Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery and advanced programming techniques
  • Gait, balance, and tremor assessments
  • MRgFUS (Magnetic Resonance-guided Focused Ultrasound) approaches
  • Emerging technologies and artificial intelligence applications

The primary objective of the program was to enhance participants' decision-making skills by merging theoretical knowledge with clinical reasoning and real-world case experiences. Case discussions and interactive sessions conducted by expert lecturers were among the most notable highlights of the training.

Rewarding Scientific Excellence

Special awards for young researchers were presented as part of NeuroLab Istanbul 2026. These included the "Best Case Presentation" and "Best Research Project" awards, as well as the "Dr. Alfonso Fasano Fellowship," which provides a six-month advanced training opportunity within PARMER.

Dr. Alfonso Fasano, an internationally renowned scientist in the field of movement disorders, a member of the NeuroLab Istanbul Organization Committee, and a consultant physician at PARMER, plays a vital role in making the center's academic rigor and clinical experience visible on a global scale. His international academic network and strong collaborations contribute to PARMER's growth as a globally integrated educational network.

In line with this vision, the fellowship named after Dr. Alfonso Fasano, a faculty member at the University of Toronto, Department of Neurology, aims to support the scientific development of young clinicians and researchers while promoting clinical excellence.

Sustainability and Social Contribution

In addition to scientific impact, NeuroLab Istanbul 2026 prioritized environmental responsibility. To offset the carbon footprint generated by the international meeting, a donation was made to the TEMA Foundation to support tree planting. This approach sent a meaningful message that scientific progress and sustainability can advance hand-in-hand.

Looking Ahead – NeuroLab Istanbul 2027

Following the successful completion of the second edition of NeuroLab Istanbul, the organizing committee issued a call to meet again for NeuroLab Istanbul 2027. This international educational platform, which focuses on excellence in the treatment of movement disorders, aims to remain a reference center for scientific knowledge exchange and the transfer of clinical experience in the future.
